Odyssey Marine

A judge has ordered the return of half a million dollars worth of gold coins to Spain. A company named Odyssey Marine Exploration found the coins in a sunken ship. The ship had been carrying the loot to Spain from Peru when it was sunk in the 1800s. If the Spaniards wanted the treasure, why didn't they look for it? Now that someone else has done the hard work, they start whining. The Spaniards are famous for looting other countries. To this day, nobody knows what they did with all the gold that arrived safely from Mexico, the Carribean, and South America. Finders keepers I say or return it to Peru. Maybe we should ask this topless woman - she might know a couple of things about gold.

Extradition

From a Yahoo! News story: “MADRID, – A Spanish court has agreed to consider opening a criminal case against six former Bush administration officials, including former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, over allegations they gave legal cover for torture at Guantanamo Bay, a lawyer in the case said Saturday. Human rights lawyers brought the case before leading anti-terror judge Baltasar Garzon, who agreed to send it on to prosecutors to decide whether it had merit, Gonzalo Boye, one of the lawyers who brought the charges, told The Associated Press.” One question: Why not pursue Bush and Cheney as well? The Spaniards wholeheartedly sanctioned the Inquisition for more than a century and now they are getting faint hearted at water boarding? Please. Stop this self-serving hypocrisy.

Spain

It pays to be conservative. Now, I hear that Spain is not having too much trouble dealing with the folding of Wall Street. Why not? Because they were very conservative in their lending practices. While banks in the U.S. and Europe were making loans while blindfolded, Spain was being judicious and careful. I think this photo was taken in Spain. The hemline indicates that the Spanish economy is doing very well. It can't go any higher, that's for sure.

Bertha Canta

Bertha, lyric soprano, is in Spain right now - Bilbao Spain. She is both a singer and an actress. Her picture is to the left of you (as if you hadn’t already noticed). She sings both Zarzuela and Opera, just like Placido Domingo, her countryman. Bertha makes her home in Bilbao – about 220 miles north of Madrid and about fifty miles from the French border. Bilbao is the home of the famous Guggenheim Museum. She loves the seashore and studies voice diligently. Understandably, her favourite composers are Verdi, Puccini, and Mozart, but she loves the blues as well and has even composed a number of modern songs. Among her favourite singers are Luciano Pavarotti, Renee Fleming, and Maria Callas. She would like to very soon travel to Paris, Vienna, or New York to pursue her career. She has a very popular page on MySpace.
