Guns

If you've read the news lately, you know that some people showed up at political rallies displaying guns - one person had an assault rifle. That is downright barbaric. It is within the law, but that does not make it morally right. The only purpose a gun in plain sight might serve is to intimidate someone. Intimidation and coercion are wrong. Thugs do that. Control freaks do that. We have (more than enough) other problems to deal with. Please.

I saw this picture of a guy who looked sort of like a peacock and thought it was funny so now I am sharing it with all those who haven't caught the swine flu yet - 99.999999999999% of the world's population. They are the ones who might find this amusing. Of course, the drug companies absolutely adore the new flu - it means millions of extra dollars in their accounts by next Fall. Does anyone remember Bernie Madoff? Or Governor Spitzer? Or the Russian war against Georgia? This swine flu thing is a blessing for anyone caught up in a scandal. Too bad that by next month it will be a thing of the past. We must wait until next Fall for the next installment. Please.

Extradition

News story: “MADRID, – A Spanish court has agreed to consider opening a criminal case against six former Bush administration officials, including former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, over allegations they gave legal cover for torture at Guantanamo Bay, a lawyer in the case said Saturday. Human rights lawyers brought the case before leading anti-terror judge Baltasar Garzon, who agreed to send it on to prosecutors to decide whether it had merit, Gonzalo Boye, one of the lawyers who brought the charges, told The Associated Press.” One question: Why not pursue Bush and Cheney as well? The Spaniards wholeheartedly sanctioned the Inquisition for more than a century and now they are getting faint hearted at water boarding? Please. Stop this self-serving hypocrisy.
